Introduction to the management of the CASEN surveyJune 5 – 11:00 hrsRegistration hereRecommended of the month – Paper: “Job resource trajectories and the timing of retirement” Elissa El Khawli, Mark Visser, Mustafa FiratMarcela Parada recommends “This paper finds that workers in jobs with low recognition have a greater probability of retiring early. The result is interesting because it shows that emotional factors impact economic decisions”Our goal is to be a center for discussion of intergenerational mobility in the social sciences as a way to evaluate, understand and change inequalities in Chile.Understanding and characterizing intergenerational mobility is fundamental to designing and justifying public policies to improve the common good. The relationship between observational evidence and the sociological, economic, and psychological theories that underpin how we understand and evaluate mobility and inequality serves as the basis for policy recommendations. But, if a policy recommendation is based on theory-evidence interaction, what scientific information would be necessary, or sufficient, to change a policy position?MOVI seeks to work with national policy makers to underscore that their focus should not only be on public policy recommendations, but also on the theories underpinning them.

About us
We are the Millennium Nucleus on Intergenerational Mobility: From Modelling to Policy. A Millennium Nucleus in Social Sciences funded by the Millennium Science Initiative (MSI) Program, awarded through public competition in 2021.
Our work
MOVI’s main objective is to characterize the measurement and public policy recommendations on intergenerational mobility based on different methodological approaches.
How we do it
We work through five research lines: labor and educational trajectories; income mobility and other relevant variables; psychometrics and the use of technology in social measurements; childhood, care and intergenerational transmission; and social mobility and the city.
